CALI works only where it is invited and exists to strengthen the efforts of people who are making a measurable, reproducible difference in the lives of those around them. CALI does this in the following ways.
CALI first asks poor communities about THEIR felt needs. (We don’t tell. We ask.) We then create a list of these needs and consult a network of non-government organizations, institutions and government associations that we believe can recommend solutions that will correct these problems.
CALI makes this list of solutions available to a network of village level workers, community leaders, non-profit and religious organizations. They, in turn, encourage families living in extreme poverty to achieve a more self reliant lifestyle by demonstrating these solutions in their community-based centers.
The ultimate goal of CALI is to build a network of centers that become a living resource to their community—a “toolbox” so to speak, a resource center that accomplishes and demonstrates solutions to the following problems:
